The previous chapter taught you how to build diagrams from the ground up, using only the built-in shape tool. This chapter will extend your OmniGraffle proficiency by showing you that Stencils are great time savers.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a good diagram is worth tenfold. We'll go through a few simple, easy to remember rules, that will make your diagram stand out from the crowd.
In this chapter, you are going to get an introduction to Stencils and the Stencils Library (pictured next). The chapter will continue extending your knowledge into managing and creating your own Stencils.

A very good reason for creating your own stencils is to select the most common shapes you use in your day-to-day diagramming and put this into a favorite shapes stencil.
OmniGraffle does have a Favorite Stencils collection available. You'll later learn how to manage this. However, the name favorite shape stencil does not indicate that such a function is built into OmniGraffle...
