Final preparations before installing

We need to make sure the clocks on our servers are synchronized. We should also set our clocks to the appropriate time zone for our users. Blackboard Learn allows users to disable tasks and content access based on the server time. We should set our server clocks to the location where most of our users reside to prevent any major issues.

We also need to make sure the ports that Blackboard Learn uses are open:

  • Ports 80 and 443 are web server ports, both unsecure and secure

  • Ports 8010 and 8011 allow users to connect to the collaboration server

  • If you enable SSL encryption on your collaboration server, you will need to open port 8443 as well

Other points to consider before we start the installation process are as follows:

  • Make sure you have not used an underscore in the name for any of the servers that will host Blackboard Learn

  • Make sure your DNS server will resolve the server names used in your Blackboard Learn instance

Now we will move on to the installation...
