Adding a new file type or filter to the mime.types
and mime.convs
files is a straightforward activity. However, when we upgrade to a new version of CUPS, these files are overwritten. In such a scenario, it is better if we have created different files with the extensions .types
and .convs
in the /etc/cups
directory. This will help you keep your configuration files intact even if CUPS is being upgraded. It is recommended that you use the product or format name as given here. This will help you recognize the file with its filename:
mycups.types mycups.convs
It's not compulsory that you use the product or format name while creating these files. If you are providing a filter for a common file format or printer, you can also add the company's or even author's name:
acme-msword.types CUPSfilters, addingacme-msword.convs
