In the second project, we will create a spacecraft, adding a bit of scale to the project, and new materials and textures as well. With this project, we will be working with metal, glass, and other elements that make the spacecraft. Along with the object, a new space environment will be created in the book too. At the end we have a big and complex object, which is the transforming robot. This last part of the book will cover the modeling of two objects and show how you can make one transform into the other. The scale and number of objects in this project are quite big, but the same principles as in the other projects are applied here with a step-by-step guide on how to go through the workflow of the project.

Rendering the scene


Now, it's time to render the scene and create a daylight and night render of the spacecraft. For this scene, we will use a DarkTide's SunSky background. Go to World settings and choose a DarkTide's SunSky background with the following settings:

Now, go directly to the Settings panel of YafaRay. There we will pick a rendering method from several types available. For this project, one of the best options is Pathtracing. With this type of rendering, the light rays are traced from the camera until they reach a light source. The path made by the light source is used to calculate the light added to the scene.

To control the quality of the Pathtracing rendering, we will use a parameter called Path samples. With a low number of samples, we will have a lot of noise in the render. With higher values, the render will become clean and will also take more time to generate the image. For this project, we will use 32 samples to test the settings and 256 for the final render.
