Creating an aged photo with simple Blender materials


Many recent 2D paint packages will provide some means of faking 3D to produce images that appear to have perspective. Such pseudo tools are usually inaccurate and quite tricky to use. We know that Blender has excellent 3D capabilities, so wouldn't it be great if we could bring into Blender images and photos and simply create quite complex 3D representations?

Blender can be used to automatically transform an image into something with realistic characteristics of depth, specularity, and accurate camera-based views. We will explore how we can create simple image manipulation setups that can be automatically applied to any image or across any Blendfile to produce an aged photograph.

Getting ready

This recipe is very simple to produce, so we don't have to start out with a pre-created blendfile. In the first section, we will create a simple plane, together with a special material that uses a node texture. This node texture can accept any image...
