Discrete Fourier transforms

The Fourier transform is used in optics, acoustics, radio engineering, and many other fields. It is most often used to transform a time-domain signal into the frequency domain so that its frequency components can be analysed. Because most applications involve signals that are sampled at discrete times, the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) is an important part of numerical computing.
