Managing the project to build the new environment


As engagement around Sakai OAE grew, six universities decided to put coordination structures in place, and to boost the pace of development by intensive work over the course of twelve months by means of a managed project. Six institutions signed Memoranda of Understanding committing developers and cash contributions toward meeting common project goals over the twelve-month period. These were: Charles Sturt University of Australia; New York University; Georgia Institute of Technology; Indiana University; the University of California, Berkeley; and the University of Cambridge in the UK. Stanford University and the University of Cape Town in South Africa also contributed resources. The project began in June of 2010, under the auspices of the Sakai Foundation.
