Managing course roles in Blackboard Learn


In Chapter 5, Administrating Courses in Blackboard Learn, we discussed the different roles users can have within a course and what users can do with those roles. Our Blackboard Learn instance has a set of default course roles with the following titles.

  • Course Builder

  • Grader

  • Instructor

  • Student

  • Teaching Assistant

  • Guest

We can see a list of these by clicking on the System Admin tab. Under the Users module, we find the Course/Organization Roles link that will take us there, as shown in the following screenshot:

This page gives us a list of our roles and their names in the courses (and organizations, if we have Blackboard Community). We might call these roles by different names within our organization, but for our instance, we will change the title instructor role's name to teacher or professor.

Editing a course role

If we want to make this change, we can do so by moving our mouse over Role ID, such as Course Builder or Instructor. Click on the chevron...
