Creating insert clips (PiP)


In this section, you will take the unused camera angles PiP-Insert_1.avi and PiP-Insert_2.avi, and create a Picture in Picture (PiP) effect. This allows you to have a small window over the main play area, one that gives an alternative view of the action, for example a crowd reaction shot, without cutting away from the main action. To do this, you will use one of Premiere Pro's preset PiP effects.

There are a number of PiP effects to choose from, and by all means, if you prefer to use an example other than the suggestions listed in this task, please do. It is your project after all!

Engage Thrusters

To add PiP clips in this task, follow these steps:

  1. Start by dragging-and-dropping PiP-Insert_1.avi onto Video 2. Make sure the start of the clip lines up with the very start of the Timeline. Your carefully constructed multi-camera sequence is now totally obscured by the PiP-Insert_1.avi clip.
