Embedded Linux Essentials Handbook
By :
In the previous chapter, we learned the value of frameworks such as the Yocto Project and Buildroot in streamlining the process of generating complete embedded Linux images. Without these frameworks, we would have to manually create our images.
This chapter focuses on the Yocto Project. While the previous chapter provided an overview of the framework, here we will explore it in detail. We will begin with the background information, including terminology and the related projects and frameworks that the Yocto Project builds upon. Then, we will dive into how to use the Yocto Project, learning about the mechanics of creating an embedded Linux image: setting up our environment, executing the required commands, and implementing common customizations for our system. We’ll apply these steps to run our image on both a Raspberry Pi 5 and a virtualized environment using QEMU.
We are going to cover the following main topics in this chapter...
