Overview of this book

With Wearable-Tech Projects with the Raspberry Pi Zero, you will begin with learning how to install the required software for your upcoming projects. You will also learn how to control electronic devices with the GPIOZero Python library. Next, you will be creating some stylish wearable-tech projects such as a motion-reactive LED cap and a Tweet-activated LED T-shirt. Toward the end of the book, you will be creating some useful health and fitness wearable-tech projects; these will help you monitor your heart rate, track your movements with GPS, and count your footsteps with your own pedometer. By the end of the book, you will have created a range of wearable-tech projects and learned enough about your Raspberry Pi Zero that you should be able to adapt these projects further or come up with your own creations!

Making our program run automatically

As with our previous projects, we now need to make our program start as soon as we switch our Pi Zero on.

First we will create our service definition file, so type this:

sudo nano /lib/systemd/system/pedCount.service

Now type the definition into it:

[Unit]
Description=Pedometer Service
After=multi-user.target

[Service]
Type=idle
ExecStart=/home/pi/WearableTech/Chapter7/pedCount.py

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target

Save and exit Nano by typing Ctrl + O, followed by Enter, and then Ctrl + X. Now, change the file permissions, reload the systemd daemon, and activate our service by typing this:

sudo chmod 644 /lib/systemd/system/pedCount.service 
sudo systemctl daemon-reload
sudo systemctl enable pedCount.service

Now, we need to test if this is working, so reboot your Pi by typing sudo reboot, and then when your Pi Zero restarts, you should see your...
