Watching the temperature


When Xerox engineers created the Window system based on Smalltalk, they brought a big concept to the computer world—the idea of analog representation on digital devices (computer).

This means that for us, human beings, it is easier to understand how long a process will take watching a progress bar instead of watching a percentage on screen. Here, we will watch some colors instead of numbers.

In this recipe, we will watch the color of a temperature instead of watching its value; this way, you can have a better idea about the chill.

Getting ready

Open your Xcode and create a new playground called Chapter 6 Color, remove the str string, but leave the UIKit import as it is.

How to do it...

Follow these steps to create a playground that will watch the temperature:

  1. First of all, let's create an array with temperatures; in this case, the temperatures are measured in Celsius degrees:

    var temperatures = [15, 8, 3, -1, 2, 3, 3, 9, 14, 18, 23, 27, 30, 34, 20, 30, 35, 39, 41]
