Receiving and responding to text messages

Each time you receive a text message, you'll see a notification number at the upper-right corner of the Messages icon on the Home Screen. This number displays the number of unread messages you've received, as shown in Figure 5.28:

If you're using your iPhone when you receive a message, you'll see a brief message at the top of the screen, as shown in Figure 5.29:

The Messages app lists everyone who has contacted you in the past. If you have added their names and mobile phone numbers in the Contacts app, that person's name will appear. Otherwise, only that person's mobile phone number will appear.
