Summary

In this chapter, we learned some more basic stuff that is required to create a basic map application.

We covered how to generate the SHA1 fingerprint on different platforms, registering our application in the Google Developer Console and generating an API key. We also configured Google Play services in Android Studio and Eclipse, and added permissions and other data in manifest, which is essential. Then, we created our first working Map application and tested it in an emulator. We also solved the compatibility issue by using support libraries. Finally, we learned about the callback method and the GoogleMap object.

In the next chapter, we will learn the implementation of different map types. Enjoy learning!
