Programmable networks have paved the way for new methods to design, build, and operate our networks. They create a structure that supports our complex data applications such as Big Data, Internet of Things (IoT), 4k video, and virtualization.
SDN's adoption into the production network is overwhelming, with major service providers such as AT&T swapping traditional network equipment for off-the-shelf servers that can run network software applications. By 2020, AT&T is expected to have 75% of its network based on SDN models considering the benefits, such as reduced capital expenditure and operation expenditure, minimized space and hardware requirement, and improved security.
We will cover the following topics:
- Packet forwarding innovations beyond OpenFlow
- Protocol-independent forwarding
- Optical transport protocol extensions
- Security extensions
- Wireless transport SDN
