Summary

AWS RDS is a managed service. A lot of time-consuming tasks, such as provisioning, patching, high availability, and backups are part of the service. In this chapter, we have learnt about the various licensing aspects that should be considered. We also learnt about the various storage types available with this service. Multi-AZ configuration provides you out-of-the-box high availability solution for which you might spend a lot of time and money in the traditional world. We learnt how easily encryption can be enabled, and how client-to-server traffic can be encrypted using SSL on RDS. We also touched base on several operational aspects, such as restarting the DB instance, adding more space to the DB instance, and modifying the DB instance configuration. In the next chapter, we will learn about the read replicas that are used to read intensive workloads.
