Summary

For read-intensive workloads, RDS read replicas are a very useful component in your infrastructure. In this chapter, we have learnt how to create read replicas and work around them using various cmdlets. Almost all other generic cmdlets for day-to-day functions that you can use with a primary DB instance can be used with read replicas as well. We also know how to enable the backups on read replicas and how to promote them when needed. We also went through a use case that is commonly used in the industry to balance a workload between multiple read replicas using the Route 53 weighted routing policy. In the next chapter, we will learn about the AWS Elastic Beanstalk service for deploying applications, and managing application deployment using Beanstalk's capabilities.
