In this section, we will demonstrate how to create a captive portal with User Manager authentication. In some circumstances, we may want to maintain a database of users allowed to use the captive portal on our system. In such cases, we have two options: authentication through pfSense’s built-in User Manager, or authentication through an external RADIUS server. Since authentication through the User Manager is by far the easier option, we will demonstrate how to authenticate with the User Manager first.
- Navigate to
Services
|Captive Portal
. - Click on the
Add
button. - Enter a name in the
Zone name
edit box and a brief description into the Zone description edit box. - When done, click on the
Save and Continue
button. - When the page loads, it should default to the
Configuration
tab. Check theEnable Captive Portal
checkbox to display other captive portal configuration options. - In the
