Summary

As with any restore process, there are many steps involved to recover an entire AD site. After a successful restore, it is a good idea to monitor the replication logs, and to verify that the domain, including the recovered site, is functioning correctly. In this chapter, we also addressed the issue of different hardware of recovery DCs. This is still an issue with Windows 2003. However, if the hardware is matched fairly closely, the recovery will work, and Windows 2003 is more forgiving, even with motherboard and some chipset changes than Windows 2000 is.

When designing a Disaster Recovery plan, the virtual option is actually quite appealing and quite a few companies are implementing Virtual DCs instead of physical ones, specifically for the purpose of recovery.
