Obtaining NRPE


NRPE is a core add-on for Nagios, and is maintained by the Nagios development team. NRPE can be downloaded as both source code and binary packages. In the first case, you can compile NRPE from sources by yourself; in the latter, you have a ready-to-use set of binaries.

The NRPE source package can be downloaded from the Nagios download page (http://www.nagios.org/download/). NRPE can be found in the Addons section of the page. The file is named in the form of nrpe-2.1.12.tar.gz.

Many Linux distributions already contain prebuilt NRPE binaries. If you want to use precompiled packages instead of building them yourself, then this is the way to go.

For Ubuntu Linux, the package names are nagios-nrpe-server and nagios-nrpe-plugin for the daemon and client respectively.

For Ubuntu, the command to install the client and the server is as follows:

apt-get install are nagios-nrpe-server nagios-nrpe-plugin
