Managing users


You will want to carry out a number of tasks for your users to set them up on the system and ensure they have correct access to data—and that their data is secured appropriately.

Managing roles

When users are created, they are based on one of the templates available for the default settings for a user. These templates are called roles.

Roles define which services a user can interact with from SBS 2008 and the storage limits, also known as quotas, that control how much disk resource each user uses. Roles configure:

  • Remote Access via Remote Web Workplace (RWW) and VPN access

  • Which sites can be accessed remotely (Outlook and SharePoint besides RWW)

  • Whether email quotas are in place and what they are

  • Whether storage quotas are in place and what they are

  • Whether folder redirection is in place

There are three default roles that you will be able to choose from:

  • Standard User

  • Network Administrator

  • Standard User with administrator links
