We have now gone through all the steps required to prepare the Microsoft applications and settings that would normally be installed on a SBS 2003 system; however, if you have installed SQL Server 2000 or SQL Server 2005 or any other applications, you need to consult with the vendors for those applications on how to move them to a new system.
At this point, you may decide to install these applications onto a second system as part of SBS 2008 Premium edition or again onto the first server of SBS 2008. If you are planning to do the latter, bear in mind that you are moving from SBS 2003 to SBS 2008, which means from Windows Server 2003 32-bit to Windows 2008 64-bit and that the impact of the applications on the first server could be high. If you wish to use only one physical system, then you can consider loading the Premium server inside a virtual machine so it can be managed and easily transferred at a future date.
