Troubleshooting tips


Update installers can sometimes be problematic and often it is hard to deduce the root cause of a fix pack installation failing. The obvious reason for failure are often the amount of disk space left on the file system, folder permissions and environment variables, namely system paths. However, there are a few other kinds of errors that are less intuitive. Below is a list of common problems and their solutions, to help you with problem-solving upgrade failures. Following are some common problems:

  • Problem: Silent Install

    • When using the silent option of installing a fix pack, the installer may not report accurately in the logs the root cause of a failed installation.

  • Resolution: Silent Install

    • You can opt to try a graphical installation using X Windows. Using the manual install approach can often shed light on errors that are reported in the GUI, but not in the silent installer.

  • Problem: GUI Install

    • Launchpad installation wizard will not start or fail when using GUI.
