Introduction


In Chapter 3, we looked at managing recipients, which covered the process of creating and modifying the membership of both regular and dynamic distribution groups. In this chapter, we are going to dive deeper into distribution group management within the Exchange Management Shell. The recipes in this chapter provide solutions to some of the most common distribution group management tasks that can, and sometimes must, be handled from the command line. Some of the topics we'll cover include the implementation of group naming policies, allowing group managers to modify the memberships of distribution groups, and more. We'll also go over the process of some basic address list management that can be automated through the shell.

To work with the code samples in this chapter, follow these steps to launch the Exchange Management Shell:

  1. Log onto a workstation or server with the Exchange Management Tools installed

  2. Open the Exchange Management Shell by clicking on Start | All Programs | Exchange...
