Office 365 and on-premise SharePoint and Exchange


Office 365 and the on-premise versions of Exchange 2010 and SharePoint provide very similar functionality, with Office 365 being a Microsoft hosted version of the same product. Office 365 also can include the Office WebApps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote) and Lync (instant messenger and online meetings) as well as these being available to install on-premise as well. Information on Office 365 can be found at http://www.office365.com.

With Office 365, the amount of customization and integration with other products is restricted versus the on-premise products; however, the cost of running a standardized service may be much lower with Office 365 as this includes both the software, maintenance, and upgrades in the price.
