Upgrading


In many circumstances, SpamAssassin can be upgraded seamlessly. When system administrators or users have made customizations, there may be minor issues. The rules used by SpamAssassin change with each release, and a user may have entered customized scores for rules that are no longer in the latest release. SpamAssassin will continue to work, but the spamassassin --lint command will list errors.

When SpamAssassin is upgraded, the system administrator should run the spamassassin --lint command. This should be done for the main account(s) that are used to filter spam.

# su spam
$ spamassassin --lint

To upgrade SpamAssassin when it has been built from source, repeat the process for installing SpamAssassin. The latest version will be installed, overwriting the old version.

# perl -MCPAN -e shell
cpan> install Mail::SpamAssassin
