In this chapter, we looked at two ways of transferring MCMS objects from one server to another.
The first method used the Site Deployment Manager—an interactive graphical user interface that allows administrators to create export packages. The same interface is used to import these objects to a separate destination server.
The second method we looked at was how incremental updates to a site can be scripted as console applications using the Site Deployment API. Once written and compiled, the executable file can be run on a scheduled basis. We wrote scripts to perform incremental exports and imports as well as backups and restores of rights groups and users. We also discussed some differences between using the Site Deployment Manager and the Site Deployment API.
Finally, we compared the server-side deployment API and the client-side deployment API. Both essentially provide the same functionality with the exception that the server-side API is run on the local machine while the client...
