Introduction

Troubleshooting Lync Server 2013 is a multifaceted task, whose complexity is related to the kind of deployment we are working on. For instance, it is much quicker and easier to troubleshoot issues with a single site Standard Edition Pool without Enterprise Voice than it is for a larger deployment with multiple pools and more features. This chapter is dedicated to some practical examples and hints related to the fundamental tools that we have at our disposal to debug Lync. This chapter also contains references to external resources that can be helpful in understanding the potential of the previously mentioned tools and in designing actual troubleshooting procedures.

The tools we will talk about will cover a large part of the different areas involved in Lync debugging, such as protocol stack analysis and log parsing. Chapter 11, Controlling Your Network – A Quick Drill into QoS and CAC, also contains information about QoE and network data quality inspection.
