Overview of Nectar and CereusReporting


In Cacti 1.x, Nectar has become an integrated part of Cacti and added some missing reporting capabilities to it. Nectar allows you to send out one or more graphs via email to multiple recipients. In contrast to Nectar, CereusReporting allows you to define a sophisticated report using the PDF format, allowing you to define enterprise-looking reports, including Weathermap reports, SmokePing graphs, and other data. Let's look at these in more detail.

Nectar

Nectar is the true descendant of the reports plugin, which in the early days of Cacti had the ability to email graphs and text on a scheduled basis. As support and development for the reports plugin was abandoned some time ago, one of the Cacti developers created a new plugin called Nectar. This plugin was integrated into the core of Cacti 1.x. Nectar is capable of creating reports containing Cacti graphs and some text, and then sending these graphs as inline images within emails.
