MySQL is a very widely used database server, and you'll probably need to install and configure a MySQL server at some point. On January 27, 2010, Oracle bought Sun Microsystems. Sun Microsystems originally developed MySQL. When Oracle took over, the project was forked into MariaDB. MariaDB was made to keep the MySQL server open source and maintained. When we use the puppetlabs-mysql
module, we will actually be installing MariaDB. The puppetlabs-mysql
module can simplify your MariaDB deployments.
