Summary

This chapter provides an overview of the upcoming GlassFish 3. We focused on the new features of GlassFish 3, and how to install and administer GlassFish 3, and how to deploy applications to the server. We did not discuss several topics such as resource and security configuration. The reasons for this are:

  • Along the development timeline of GlasssFish 3, support for configuring different resources and security features was gradually added in later builds of GlassFish.

  • For most of the resource and security features that are implemented in the current GlassFish 3 builds, there administration and configuration is actually very similar to GlassFish 2.

Due to this, we strongly recommend you use this chapter as a starting point, and refer to the GlassFish 3 website and documentation for more up-to-date coverage on these topics.
