Untangle's Captive Portal
Captive Portal is used to enforce users' authentication before they can use the Internet. This is helpful in many cases, as follows:
To ensure that users read and accept the AUP before they can access the Internet
To enforce different Internet usage policies based on the username and/or device type such as wireless connected devices, BYOD, and smartphones
Captive Portal can just be used for acknowledging users, or to enforce users' authentication. Captive Portal can authenticate users against the Untangle NGFW local directory, RADIUS servers, or Active Directory. The ability to authenticate users against RADIUS servers and Active Directory requires the usage of the Directory Connector application.
The working of Captive Portal
When an unauthenticated user requests a website, the DNS query will be resolved as usual and the browser will get the IP address of the site. The browser will send a HTTP request to this IP address. Untangle's Captive Portal application will intercept...
