You might be used to VPN solutions which give you some client installer and allow you to deploy it on any client. Unfortunately, the kind of remote access we are talking about here does not provide such limitless freedom. DirectAccess is an enterprise-class solution, and as such, only supports the higher-end SKUs (Stock-Keeping Units).
As you probably know, Windows 8 is available to the public in four editions:
Windows 8
Windows 8 RT
Windows 8 Pro
Windows 8 Enterprise
The first one in the preceding list is comparable to the Home editions that Windows 7 and Vista had, while the Pro edition is comparable, of course, to the Pro editions of the previous incarnations of Windows as far back as Windows 2000. RT is the code name for the edition of Windows 8 that will be compiled for ARM processors and run on tablet computers such as Microsoft's Surface RT tablet.
