In the previous chapter, we described how to model an organizational structure in the intranet using organizations and user groups. We also discussed their attributes, such as address, phone numbers, websites, services, and so on. There is one attribute that makes organizations and user groups a very important component of Liferay Portal CMS. This attribute is site. A site is set of pages that may contain applications and content. Users gathered within an organization or user group can have their site, which stores and presents information that is produced and published by its users (files, articles, calendar events, bookmarks, and so on). There are also sites that are not connected to any structured collection of users. In this chapter, we will discuss how to create, customize and manage sites.
