The primary task of any intranet is to allow efficient exchange of information between the employees of a company. In most cases, business knowledge is stored in the form of files and—if the company does not have a dedicated system—distributed between mailboxes, network drives, FTP servers, employees' computer drives, and external data carriers. In such cases, there is often a problem in determining who has the current version of the file, whether such documents exist at all, or where to find them. Liferay helps in coping with the dispersal of information by providing an internal repository of files.
