Scanning SharePoint content for migration issues

SMAT has two core functions, as follows:

  • Generating an identity mapping file for existing sites
  • Scanning content for potential issues

We'll look at each of these steps in the next sections.

Generating an identity mapping file for existing sites

To generate an identity mapping file, follow these steps:

  1. From a SharePoint server, launch an elevated Command Prompt.
  2. Change directories to the location from which SMAT was extracted.
  3. Run the following command:
    SMAT.exe -generateidentitymapping. This is illustrated in the following screenshot:
  1. When prompted, enter an Office 365 global administrator credential.
  2. Select the box to grant consent and click Accept, as illustrated in the following screenshot:
