Configuring Calling Plans

Since Calling Plans-based architectures are fully hosted solutions, there's nothing you need to do from a network or telephony infrastructure perspective to get started. You can simply purchase calling plans and communications credits and begin configuration.

Working with phone numbers

The process for obtaining and assigning phone numbers varies based on what type of architecture you've selected as well as what types of numbers you're requesting or assigning. Since it's possible to use a mix of architectures, we'll lay out the steps for each as follows.

As mentioned earlier in the chapter, a Calling plans architecture means that the phone numbers are wholly managed by Microsoft. You may use numbers provided by Microsoft or choose to transfer your existing numbers (a process known as porting) from your existing carrier.
