Practical Business Process Modeling and Analysis

Earlier in this book, we learned about the most important types of tasks: those without a type and user, service, manual, send, and receive tasks. In this section, we will briefly discuss other types of tasks found in the BPMN specification.
We will start with a business rule task. It is a bit more advanced than the other tasks we’ve covered so far, but it is very useful for complex processes, where many aspects impact the execution of the process, especially the processes we want to automate. This task type icon is a stylized table.

A business rule task allows us to simplify our diagrams significantly by eliminating many unnecessary decision gateways and sequence flows, but most importantly, it makes our automated processes more flexible.
