OpenStreetMap
We should now have covered enough of the structures and theory in OpenStreetMap for you to be confident in drawing and tagging features.
We've covered the types of data you can record, as follows:
Nodes, representing point features
Ways, representing linear or area features
Relations, representing more complex features
We've also looked at the tagging system and how the community uses and manages it:
Tags describe a feature in a verifiable, objective way
Use editor presets and existing tags to describe features where possible
Look in the OpenStreetMap wiki to find tags for unusual features
You don't need prior approval to use a new tag if you need it
In the next chapter, we'll put these to practical use, along with examples of how to map using the most common editing applications.
