Creating a Key Performance Indicator (KPI)

This recipe shows you how to create a Key Performance Indicator based on data held in SharePoint list.

Getting ready

This recipe works for:

  • SharePoint 2010 Enterprise Edition

  • SharePoint 2010 Online (Office 365 Edition)

You will require a SharePoint site where you intend to create the KPI and a SharePoint list containing the data to report on. We will use the SharePoint site and Sales data list from the previous recipe for illustration.

You will need the Design or Full Control permission level to run this recipe.

How to do it...

  1. Navigate to your SharePoint site. Open the Site Actions menu and then click on More Options. Filter the list of available content by the List type and then choose Status List.

  2. Name the list Sales Status and click on the Create button.

  3. Once the Status List has been created click on the New link and select SharePoint List based Status Indicator.

  4. Enter the Name for your indicator as Sales Targets.
