This chapter introduced the concept of caching to improve application performance. AppFabric was shown to be a distributed cache that can be accessed by Azure role instances to quickly access the frequently used data. It is important to remember that only slowly changing data should be stored in the cache or you risk working with stale data. An example application was built to show how easily caching can be added to an application with a few configuration settings and a single query.
