Creating an OLAP Model in EIS
In this recipe, we will build an OLAP Model using Essbase Integration Services (EIS). The EIS environment has some similarities and many differences when compared to Essbase Studio. To begin, we will have to set up an ODBC for the connection to the TBC database created in the first recipe of Chapter 2. The metadata catalog needs to be created before using EIS. The metadata catalog is created when you first install EIS or can be create by following the instructions in the Oracle Essbase Integration Service Adminstrator's Guide at the following link: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/eis_sysadmin.pdf. That said, the Essbase Studio minischema and the OLAP Model in EIS are very similar in practice. Both development tools have logical representations of the data source, which are used to create the relationship between the dimension tables in your star schema to your fact table.
