Summary


This chapter was a bit of a grab bag of the more fundamental concepts of how the device handles encryption. Instead of being a complete derivative of Apple's iOS Security White Paper, we presented the newer quirks and real-world application of some of the topics around encrypting the main functions of the device. We discussed how the system is prepared at the factory with security in mind through its secure boot process. The addition of NFC payments via Apple Pay led us to investigate Passbook and its integration with Touch ID. Networking-related concerns like VPN, AirDrop, Proxies, and Filters were also discussed along with a way of utilizing a wired network connection. The Health app and Medical ID were toured briefly. Finally, we prepared for applying management by detailing what the actual files and formats are that manage settings on both iOS and Mac.
