Configuring a Windows CA template


The web server template included in a Windows Server CA is not sufficient for use with vSphere and must be altered to meet the certificate requirements. The Windows Server CA is a role installed to a standalone or enterprise Windows 2008 server or higher.

Getting started

In order to proceed, we require access to the Server Manager Management console with administrative access to the Windows CA.

Windows 2008 must be installed along with the following prerequisites:

  • Administrative privileges on the Windows CA server(s) on which you are running the tool

  • Prior installation of a Windows CA, including the web request option

  • Administrative privileges to the certificate authority and certification templates container

    Note

    This configuration is intended to be performed in a development or lab environment. Do not reconfigure a root or issue a CA in your production environment without first knowing the impact.
