Using the Microsoft Exchange connector


Configuration Manager provides you with the ability to use the abilities of ActiveSync to collect a basic inventory on cell phones and provides limited management options. Different devices have different capabilities but can be broken down into two roles as follows:

  • The mobile device legacy client management: These devices will have the mobile device legacy client deployed to them in order to manage devices for inventory as well as to configure corporate policies using settings management and software distribution. This functionality requires the use of a PKI environment and a management point and distribution point.

  • Exchange Server connector: We can use the Exchange Server connector to perform basic management such as the collection of inventory and management of policies using ActiveSync.
