Horizon data appliance architecture


Before we get into the configuration, we are going to take a high-level look at the Horizon Files element of the workspace architecture and the virtual appliances that power it. These are shown in the following figure:

The deployment in the preceding figure is based on the minimum requirements for a production deployment that requires a recommended minimum of three data appliances.

The first data-va virtual machine that gets deployed is a master data node and should not contain user data. The master data node contains the user LDAP database. Additional nodes are used for user data, with each node being capable of supporting up to 1,000 users.

A dedicated storage volume is required by each node and is dependent on the type of deployment. In a POC or small-scale pilot, or when the storage requirement is less than 6 GB, you can use a VMware Virtual Machine Disk (VMDK), but for a production environment, you should follow the VMware recommendation and use an NFS...
