The esxtop command line can be used to monitor the CPU, memory, storage, and network performance metrics. The default output of this tool can further be customized to display the information you need. The esxtop tool has two operating modes—interactive (default) mode and batch mode. In interactive mode, the screen output of the tool can be changed based on what or how much information you would like to view and in batch mode you can collect and save the performance data onto a file.
To run esxtop, you will need access to the CLI of the ESXi host. The CLI can be accessed on the host's console via an IPMI interface (such as Dell's DRAC and HP's ILO), or by connecting to the server using an SSH client.
