Deleting a port group from a standard vSwitch


We learned how to create a port group in the Using esxcli section of the recipe Creating a vSphere Standard Switch. In this recipe, we will learn how to delete an existing port group.

Getting ready

Reconfigure the powered-on VMs to use a different port group.

How to do it...

A port group can be deleted by using either the vSphere Web Client GUI or the esxcli command. We will cover both methods.

Using the vSphere Web Client

The following procedure explains how to delete a port group by using the vSphere Web Client:

  1. Select the ESXi host from the inventory, navigate to Manage | Networking | Virtual switches, and select the vSwitch you would like to delete the port group from.

  2. With the vSwitch selected, identify the port group from the switch diagram, click on the name of the port group, and click on the red delete (X) icon to remove the port group as explained in the following screenshot:
