Creating an NFS Datastore


For an ESXi host to access a share available on an NFS server or storage system, it would need to mount the share and make it available as a datastore to use it. This recipe will walk you through the steps required to do this.

Getting ready

You will need the FQDN/IP address of the NFS server and the folder path (export) information handy before you proceed. Your storage admin can provide you with this information. NFS will also require a VMkernel interface to connect to the storage. Hence, make sure one is already created for this purpose. For instructions on how to create a VMkernel interface, read the recipes Creating a VMkernel interface on a standard vSwitch and Creating additional VMkernel interfaces on a VDS in Chapter 6, Configuring vSphere Networking.

The following procedure will guide you through the steps required to mount an NFS share as a datastore to the ESXi server.
