Now that the virtual machine is ready to use, let's have a closer look at the disks.
The filenames of the virtual disk files are not shown in the Azure Management Portal. For management of virtual machines, it can be very useful to have some sort of naming convention and know what .vhd
belongs to which virtual machines.
When a virtual machine is created, Azure will use the following naming convention for VHD files:
<name of Cloud Service>-<name of the virtual machine>-<date of creation>.vhd
When a virtual machine is created in the Azure Management Portal, there is no control over the naming of the VHD file that is used for the system disk (C:
) and the temporary disk (D:
).
